Like tea leaves, most leaves that fall into your pond contain tannins, which are released into the water during the decomposition process, causing teacolored water. Certain leaves contain more tannins than others, but the result is the same – brown stained water. Tannins can also be caused by run-off flowing through planting beds that are covered in wood mulch. Tannins do not settle out like sediments so they need to be physically (or chemically) removed. Start by removing the source of the tannins by netting any leaves that have settled on the bottom of the pond, and by regularly emptying your skimmer net. The most effective way to remove tannins is by using Aquascape Activated Pond Carbon. Simply place the Activated Pond Carbon where there is constant water flow, such as a skimmer, biological filter, or stream. The carbon acts like a magnet and actually absorbs the tannins from the water. Activated carbon should be changed on a regular basis according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Fabric Pond-Pot for Aquatic Plants

If needed, fold the fabric back and down to adjust height
Fill your Pond-Pot about half full with soil. Pond-Pots work well with any packaged brand of aquatic soil, or any other “backyard soil”. Do not fill with substances that will float when submerged
Position the plant and continue to fill with soil.
Saturate with water to remove air pockets

These flexible porous fabric pots were designed to help aerate the root zone for healthier growth of your aquatic plants. The fabric can be folded to adjust the depth of the pot. The maximum dimensions of the container are 8" diameter x 7" high. The fabric will not rot.

These fabric Pond Pots are also commonly used for growing herbs and vegetables. The larger sizes work great for tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers.

The amount of soil required for the fabric pots varies due to the fact that the height of the pot can be changed by rolling down the sides. As a guideline this pot will require 9 pounds of aquatic soil if filling the pot completely. Rolling down the sides and/or mixing the aquatic soil with some top soil will reduce the amount needed.

The container you use in your pond will effect plant growth. Fabric Pond-Pots are the best aquatic growing container available. For the best results follow these guidelines:

Plastic Aquatic Pots :
