A viewing window adds a fantastic dimension to your new koi pond and is very useful for keeping an eye on the health of the koi without having to net them.

I wanted to do this topic as when i was researching how to do my pond window there wasnt many threads with information on pond windows with liner, mostly they come up with fibre glass. My pond has been set up a few months and I was looking at the windows on the internet and noticed prices around £300 for glass with a frame. I didnt want the frame as I felt this would look ugly with my sleeper pond.
I went to a local glass supplier who took my pond dimensions and volume and calculated what glass I needed, I managed to get my glass which is 700 x 400 and approx 15mm thick with a laminate inbetween for £20. I must add that this was a trade price as I know someone with an account there.
The pond only had to be half drained as it goes down 2ft into the ground so I was able to keep the fish in there.

The silicone I purchased was from erdington aquatics a local aquatic shop to me and that come to £36 for two tubes of it. I used the silicone as a frame for the glass.

With no real wood skills and first time using a router I routed out a rebate into my sleepers

Once the sleepers had a rebate in them approx 30mm all round I cut the liner and siliconed the glass to sit on top of the liner in the rebate, I used 1 1/2 tubes of silicone on this

I then left it 24 hours to set and nervously started filling it up to check for leaks

This is the finished product

Thanks for looking and I hope this will help anyone thinking of doing it

"Stunning"

Stunning. Imagine the view from the patio..... The window is 'Infinity' styled meaning the glass comes up to top of the wall as opposed to the traditional in wall type.

Again, GRP were entrusted to work on a finely built koi pond.

Questions often asked of us about koi pond viewing windows are 'What style of window should I have' and 'How thick should the glass be?'

The two styles available are the traditional in wall type and the infinity style as shown in this featured pond where the glas reaches to the top of the wall.

The thickness of the glass in both cases is calculated by our dedicated glass specialist contractor based on the following information. Pond dimensions and the height to the top of the glass from operating water level in the pond. Our customers receive a very good discount from the supplier (Discount code from GRP required.)

Here is a diagram of how the koi pond viewing window is installed WITHOUT the need to buy an aluminium frame.
