Description: Phelsuma ornata inexpectata is a slim built Taggecko. The males reach a total length of 130 mm, while the females with 100-110 mm remain significantly smaller. The basic color of the animals is dark green. The body top is penetrated by a fireplace red drawing.

Entertainment in the terrarium:
In November 1994, I received a Tomboy group of 1,2 Phelsuma ornata inexpectata . The animals were housed in a terrarium size of 40x40x70 cm. Outfitted was the terrarium with arm-thick bamboo poles, a Sanseverie and a ficus. As the substrate, a limestone granules were used. Illuminated was the terrarium with 2 x 18 watt fluorescent tubes and a 20 watt halogen spotlights. The temperature ranged from 22-35 ° C during the day, at night the temperature dropped to 20 ° C. Sprayed once daily. The animals became accustomed to quick, were from the outset little shy and took after only 3 days crickets, wax worms and fruit yogurt on. Balzaktivitäten the male against two females added an after 4 days. Both females participated in the following days clearly reaping to and started after 17 or 22 days respectively a Doppelei from. Here, a Sanseverienblatt and the Inner a bamboo tube was chosen firstly. The two clutches were left in the terrarium. To my disappointment, I realized that none of the two clutches properly (ie first uniform light pink color, which merges gradually into a gray color) developed. Both animals sat three weeks later each another unfertilized double clutch. After extinguished the Balzaktivitäten the male and no further scrim more were formed. This behavior proved after consultation with other Phelsumenpflegern as typical of Phelsuma ornata inexpectata .
After not einstellten the awaited pairing efforts of the male in spring 1995, the animals were moved from May in a Drahtgazebehälter and placed in a protected area on the balcony. There, the animals remained throughout the summer where they often lying in the sun, could be observed. In September, the animals relative to their original dwelling in the terrarium wall. Now could at least be observed that, against the females an increased aggressiveness shows the male and this chased every now and then by the terrarium.
The final breakthrough came in the spring of 1996, the exchange of the two females against a mature male that without suitable counterpart already several years held in captivity. This animal was placed together with the remaining females in a very densely planted terrarium (three Sanseveria, a Yukka palm).

Three red vertical stripes running parallel from the head to the neck and losing out on the upper back in a number of smaller flourishes type patches. The two outer of the three longitudinal stripes run into the level of the yellow-rimmed eyes. The center strip ends on the snout in a cross-belt, so that a T-shaped figure formed. Before that there is a bright blue spot, which by a further U-shaped red tape, which runs over the tip of the snout, is included. On both sides of the head, a brown band from the eye moves to the approach of the front legs, which is demarcated by a bright green strip of the body top. The neck can, especially in the males, have a bluish coloration. Leg tops are marbled green brownish. On the rear third light blue colored tail top the curlicue-type pattern of the back continues. The abdominal and tail underside is yellowish, throat but white colored gray.

Habitat and Distribution: Phelsuma ornata inexpectata comes punctually before on the south coast of Maskareneninsel Reunion. The animals colonize here the coastal strip up to altitudes of about 100 m. As outspoken Kulturfolger they prefer both the scale planting in the gardens (palms, pandanus, papaya), as well as fences, walls and house walls of locally dense development. Already in the morning that the insects are heating up in sun-exposed location by the intense sunlight. Temperatures will reach 30 ° C quickly. A constantly wafting from the sea wind ensures high humidity.

Illuminated was the terrarium with a 36-watt fluorescent tube and several hours a day with a 80-watt lamp HQL. Even at temperatures of 45 ° C the geckos were shortly on the sun space. The male was immediately interested in the females, and drove them through the terrarium. Then, the male was separated for several days from the female and then reinserted. Now could Balzaktivitäten and a pairing observed. On April 17, 20 days after the observed mating a double scrim was adhered by the female to a Sanseverienblatt. The nest was left there for three weeks. The temperature averaged 25 ° C, reaching more times during the day 38 ° C. The humidity was between 80 and 95%. After that Sanseverienblatt was cut and transferred along with scrim in an incubator. Here took place the maturation in a plastic box, which was half filled with damp vermiculite.

As the air-permeable cover a piece of nylon stocking was used. On June 17th, so after 62 days both juveniles hatched with a size of 49 or 51 mm. Your color dress like the color of the parents. It only lacks the red drawing elements, while the blue snout spot is already visible. Reared took place until further together in a terrarium size of 20x20x30 cm, illuminated by a halogen Lame 20 watts. The animals were found to the usual food as easily wind-up, but had to be separated after 3 weeks.
Four weeks after the first oviposition followed on May 28, the next scrim. This, however, was so well hidden that I could not find it. On August 10, I discovered on the windscreen a newly hatched young, which already lacked the complete tail. I could catch out immediately and found the empty egg cases glued to a sheet of Yukka palm.Directly below the scrim was the second cub. He had the parents been added so that it no longer had any chance of survival.

Fig.2: three month old cub of P.inexpectata

Fig.1: Phelsuma inexpectata, males

The remaining cub regenerated tail in the next 7 weeks. In September 96, the three half-grown cubs together in a large basin (75x40x75) were set. The animals were found to be very shy and also extremely fast. For this reason, unfortunately I could not exactly determine the gender yet. The animals have now after about 7 months a body length of 75mm. The paint scheme is not as colorful as in the wild catch. There is a lack of red component (see Fig. 2).

Etymology

The specific name, klemmeri, is in honor of German herpetologist Konrad Klemmer.[2]

Description

P. klemmeri belongs to the smallest subfamily of day geckos. It can reach a total length of about 4 inches. The body colour of this slender and long-snouted gecko is turquoise blue at the upper and mid-back. The lower back is light brown. Most of the tail is turquoise blue. Remarkable is the laterally flattened body. Another typical characteristic is the yellow head. A dark black spot is present behind the eye, followed by a black stripe which extends to the rear extremities. The legs and toes are brown speckled. The ventral side is grayish white. The sexes can easily be distinguished by the orange color around the femoral pores of the males.

Geographic range

P. klemmeri inhabits northwest Madagascar, along the coast. It is only known from the Ampasindava Peninsula (at Antsatsaka) and near Mandrozo Lake.[1]

Habitat

P. klemmeri typically lives in bamboo forests. They sometimes share their habitat with Phelsuma seippi and Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis. They are found only on yellow bamboo canes which they also use to hide in case of danger.

Diet

P. klemmeri feed on various insects and other invertebrates. They also like to lick soft sweet fruit, pollen and nectar.

Behaviour :

P. klemmeri likes to bask. It often lives in small groups.

Reproduction :

P. klemmeri females lay a pair of eggs and hide them in bamboo canes. At a temperature of 27 °C (80.6 °F), the young will hatch after approximately 39–52 days. The juveniles measure 22–29 mm (0.87–1.14 in).

range of the Yellow-headed day gecko:

Description and behavior of the Yellow-headed day gecko:

The Yellow-headed day gecko has blue lines and gradients of black / gray. It has yellow zones in the throat and sometimes on the back, slightly iridescent area ... it is a kaleidoscope colors!

The colors of the Yellow-headed day gecko

Its small size pushes me to proscribe all manipulations.
It has diurnal habits like most phelsumas (but may also be active at night).

It is arboreal and lives in a tropical biotope.
The Yellow-headed day gecko are very sharp and very fast.

We have already had a few escape to open the terrarium but as they are not shy, it is simple to get them in the terrarium.
The size of an adult is between 7.5 and 9 cm.

It has a very fine appearance, it is the smallest of phelsumas.
The Yellow-headed day gecko is very curious and somewhat timid: it is easily observable in its terrarium.
It has suction cup Cilles on the legs and on the tip of the tail allowing it to move on smooth surfaces such as tile
s.

Feeding Yellow-headed day gecko:

Its diet consists of insects and fruit.
The Yellow-headed day gecko appreciate many insects fruit flies, small crickets ...
It is essential, in addition to insects, to provide it with stewed fruit: it accepts many pots for babies but compote home is a plus.

They seem to appreciate particularly the eating, fishing, banana, apple, pear and pineapple.
An adult can eat a teaspoon of applesauce per day in addition to insects. We can also provide honey (honey put a plug in the terrarium and the animal will be used).
I also use the Repashy Day gecko MRP to ensure complete food spectrum.

Yellow-headed day gecko terrarium:

Given the habits of the animal, it will take a terrarium tropical arboreal type. We use a terrarium of 30 * 30 * 45
It will be well stocked with plants with large leaves (eg Neoregelia ) will require as many pieces bamboo for the animal to rest and enjoy exposure to UV light.

Yellow-headed day gecko terrarium

The substrate is of little importance but it will resist moisture.
The terrarium should be a temperature of 28-30 ° at the hot spot and cold spot 25; humidity will be 80% in the wettest spot.

The lighting will be significant with a UV source 5% UV (5.0 ZooMed particularly suitable) to favor synthesizing calcium.
To ensure the ideal temperature, the lamps used for plants are sufficient to create a hot spot.
the lighting setting is 10 hours in the rainy season and dry season 14h.
the months of September and January, February serve as gateways to the seasons.

Reproduction of Yellow-headed day gecko:

The female lays two non-sticky eggs.
The egg incubation is for 50 to 65 days approximately at a temperature of around 28 to 31degrés. The incubation temperature influences the sex of: a temperature of 26 to 28 degrees gives mostly female, aged 28 to 30 degrees, males.

Reproduction of Yellow-headed day gecko

Sexing of the Yellow-headed day gecko:

Males have femoral pores than females do not.
The female has calcium pockets under the neck.

Yellow-headed day gecko legislation:

Animal classified annex 2b of the Washington Convention, so it requires "cites" paper if it is imported or a certificate of transfer if he was born in captivity in the European community.

Or buy a Yellow-headed day gecko:

Phelsuma certainly less easy to find, I can encourage you to visit the sales area forum: http: //phelsuma-france.forum- actif.net/
Prices at pet stores are totally prohibitive for this small gecko.
