Since 2011 I have this species in my inventory. Goniurosaurus bawanglingensis belongs to Luii - group and I would say it is the smallest member of this group so far. This species is very jumpy and has a lot of temperament. He's so scary, like the Japanese members of this genus. For me he is one of the most interesting representatives of the genus. In his home country, which is the Hainan - Island in China, he lives in the tropical rainforest. The area of distribution is as the name suggests, in the city Bawangling. There should be only a small population of this species and for this reason, the rain forest declared a National Park.
The females of G. bawanglingensis have in between 3 - 4 clutches of 2 eggs. After about 65-75 days, depending on incubation temperature, the little hatch from the egg. Their basic color is dark brown to black with white to yellowish stripes. After a few days they start to recolor it very slowly, they on their bright colors and then a bright orange - brown. The juveniles eat greedily and they even come with feeding from her cave. With about 3 months it has changed color from a brown to a bright orange, and now even small black dots to light.

Occurrence:
Goniurosaurus bawanglingensis lives in the southwest of the Chinese tropical island of Hainan in the cooler forest areas near lime and granite rocks
Hainan, China: Location Bawangling National Nature Reserve
Description::
A medium-sized representative of the genus with a head rump length (KRL) to 104 mm, the tail length (SL) remains slightly below. Our breeding pair has a total length of 181 mm (m) and 158 mm (w). From the authors of the first description, this species was placed in the luii group.
There is a clear difference between juvenile and adult staining. Panties are dark brown with light yellow body and white tail bands. In the course of the growth, the coloration is brighter and the animals are brackenfleckt on beige-yellow ground, the darkened body tapes appear more orange-yellow and later on more or less in the basic coloration on.
Behavior:
G. bawanglingensis is predominantly soil-dwelling in the terrarium, rarely a climbing branch is used, almost never the animals are observed on the back wall. The activity time starts after switching off the terrarium lighting. G. bawanglingensis is a lurking hunter, eaten from the entrance of the shelter, sometimes after a brief pursuit of the fodder. The day usually spends the day together in a shelter, any conflicts or even pairings could not be observed so far. Always the same droppings are used, with the breeding couple a cave is reserved as a toilet.
Terrarium maintenance:
A terrarium size of 60x45x45 cm has proved to be sufficient for an adult couple.The furniture consists of Kokoshumus as a ground base, a back wall, a climbing branch, a finished cave and cork ridges as a shelter as well as a drinking bowl and a living plant. The young animals are reared in a rack system.
Offspring:
In the year 2012 between the 22.04. And 15.08. Four scrims set apart; The eggs were buried under bark or the sound shelter. The size was approximately 20x12 mm directly after the deposit. The eggs were incubated for vermiculite at constant temperatures between 27.5 and 28.8 ° C.
The incubation period was between 58 and 70 days under these conditions, the gender ratio being balanced. The total length of the hatches was about 72 to 75 mm with a KRL of 40 to 42 mm. They are very agile at first, and react with a frantic flight in the event of concern. As they get older, they become much calmer and are then fed by tweezers. Anzumerken is also that all young animals hitherto extremely greedy food and forgot the feeding all the shyness. After about six months the sex is recognizable, the animals then have a total length of approx. 140 mm.

Island of Cat Ba in Vietnam
This species was discovered in Vietnam in 2007. It belongs to the Luii-group and looks quite similar to Goniurosaurus luii. I really hope I will get the opportunity breed this kind as well.

This species is said to be the biggest representative of the genus Goniurosaurus. It lives in the Huulien-National Park of the province Lang Son in north east Vietnam. As you can see, Goniurosaurus huuliensis belongs to the Luii-group, yet inexperienced breeder can barely tell it apart from Goniurosaurus luii. I hope one day I will be able to breed this species as well.
