Draco spilonotus, or the 'Sulawesi Lined Gliding Lizard' is considered by some researchers to be a fully separate species from D. lineatus, the Lined Gliding Lizard.  Recent studies by McGuire and Kiew (1999) support this assertion.

This medium-sized Gliding Lizard is confined to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, being particularly common in the Tangkoko National Park of North Sulawesi, where these images were taken.

A visit to Tangkoko National Park, in July 2006 when conditions were hot and dry, coincided with a period of mating activity. Numerous males were observed displaying to females, with their gular flags and patagiums fully extended. A brief mating was also witnessed of around 10 seconds (see photo), which was preceded by the male circling the female excitedly. It is likely that the pale pink dorsal colour of the male represents breeding colours : the females all appeared to be mottled brown.

The patagium of the male is yellow in colour, with a network of brown lines radiating from the anterior. The gular flag is yellow, and rounded in shape. 

The species occurs at various localities in forested areas of Sulawesi.
